Indoor Air Quality

LittleGirl Sneeze 300x200 Indoor Air QualityThere is a lot of hype about how pollution is harming us and affecting the air quality outside.  However, did you know that according to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, the air quality inside our homes is actually worse than outside?  Since the average person spends 90% or more of their time inside their homes, work, schools, and stores, this is an alarming statistic.

Why is indoor air quality so much worse?  Here are some causes:

  • Leaky duct systems that allow insulation, rodent droppings, and dirt into the home
  • New carpeting, furnishings, or paint that release VOC’s—Volatile Organic Compounds
  • Improperly tuned gas furnaces that can emit Carbon Monoxide into the home’s air
  • Air fresheners, perfumes, and deodorants
  • Cleaners (yes, cleaning can make you sick!)
  • Tobacco use
  • Pesticides or bug spray

Another problem can stem from homes that are too tightly sealed and don’t release any of the pollutants outside or allow fresh air into the home.  There are several things you can do to make your home safer for you and your family.

Invest in an Electronic Air Cleaner.  Not only will you be removing 99.98% of all of the allergens in your home, but you will be helping the environment by cleaning and reusing your air cleaner instead of throwing away disposable filters.

Ultra Violet lights are used by hospitals to kill bacteria that becomes airborne.  Many homeowners are opting to get them as well to help keep colds at bay for them and their families.

The only way to know exactly where the contaminants are entering your home from is to have us perform a Home Infiltration and Duct System Analysis.  By doing this, you will get an accurate assessment of leakage within your home and we will be able to tell you exactly what improvements you can make to help keep your family healthy.
